“Oh, nice.” I select the option to train with the system AI. “If I bring my team back in here later, we won’t have to work around the trainer bot as it just stands around then.”

“Yeah, this actually opens up a whole new possibility for use that I hadn’t even considered,” Pete says. “If King’s League goes for it, we could build entire modules based on some of the more popular lower level quests for players to train in without it counting against their actual account!”

That gives me pause. “I’m not so sure about that one. I doubt the devs would allow any modder that much access, for one thing, and for another, the whole point of grinding in-game is that you have to do it on their servers. For Ebon Shire mods, we should keep our focus on making the bots better.”

“Oh,” Pete says, a little deflated. “That makes sense.”

Pete suddenly shoots a frown over his shoulder at, I assume, Kevin, who I’m pretty sure said something to him, then looks at me again. “That’s what I’ll do then. Which reminds me, you should see a bit more of a randomization on the AI attack programming this time. I’ll be recording the sessions so I can analyze it later, but any feedback you provide will be helpful too.”

“You got it. I’ll let you know how good or bad I think it is,” I say as the trainer bot’s avatar starts to materialize in front of me.

I was expecting the Dread character again since that was the last one I faced off with. What forms though, is a highly accurate rendering of Spyce. Before I can say anything out loud to Pete, the countdown starts and the Spyce trainer goes on the move.

She opens up with her Sonic Scream combined with a leaping dagger attack. I shrug off the damage and disorientation of the attack just in time to parry her twin blades as they come streaking in at my throat.

A side kick from me sends the trainer avatar flying back a few yards. The move gives me a precious second to orient myself, which is good. I activate Graydon’s Haste and take off in a burst of speed to run behind her and attempt a backstab with my Vampiric short sword. As expected, she reacts with speed of her own, executing a front flip that takes her out of range. I’m still admiring the move when she lobs one of her darts at my face to clang off of Graydon’s Sight for almost no damage.

After ringing my bell with her dart, she produces her own short sword and dives into a forward roll, then comes up in a crouch in front of me, the blade extended to perforate my belly. I barely manage to smack it away, but she turns that into a sideways slash that takes me across the chest and my health bar dips some.

Okay, then. Whatever changes Pete made are impressive as all hell. If it
